Behind The Design - Shepherd's Purse

A charming, nostalgic Laura Ashley design inspired by birds, florals and my love of print.

When I think of Laura Ashley, birds and florals are one of the very first things that come to mind. It comes from such a personal place.

The first time I decorated my bedroom, when I was 14 years old, I chose the most beautiful Laura Ashley bird wallpaper. I remember going to our local Laura Ashley store with my pocket money and all I wanted to buy was wallpaper and fabric. I was a collector of prints that spoke to me.
Their patterns were truly a huge inspiration to me throughout my younger years, college and even still to this day. Even back then, I was completely obsessed.

Shepherd’s Purse embodies everything both Laura Ashley and AP stand for, a deep connection to nature. While the bird wallpaper in my bedroom wasn’t this exact print, choosing a design with birds for our first collection felt like a nod to my younger self.

I also loved that this print comes from the archives, dating back to 1973. It carries history, charm and a sense of longevity that felt so important for this moment.

Rich with birds, florals and insects, the design feels full of life. I love the flowing movement and intricate detail, it feels almost alive.
